From the Town Board
To enhance communications with residents, the Town Board will distribute this newsletter with the “headlines” from the board meetings.
This was a routine board meeting that included a public hearing amending the local law providing real estate tax relief for Cold War veterans. Prior to the meeting, the board members individually reviewed the Town Clerk and Town Justice records for 2017. Councilman Jack Glenn was unable to attend this meeting.
Cold War Veterans – Amended the existing local law that provides real estate tax relief to cold war veterans to eliminate the expiration date and make it permanent.
American Express – Approved the use of American Express, in addition to Visa and MasterCard as a form of payment to the town. All fees are paid by the resident.
HWY Garage Furnace – Accepted the quote from A Johnson Plumbing & Heating to install a replacement oil furnace and duct work in the Town Highway garage.
Town Clerk Records – Accepted the 2017 records submitted by the Town Clerk.
Town Justice Records – Accepted the 2017 records submitted by the Town Justice.
Reserve Accounts – Established three reserve accounts totaling $135,000 to use in future years for weed management, highway equipment and capital projects.
Engineering Study – Accepted the bid from EDP Consulting to complete an engineering study related to a Town drainage situation.
Sand/Salt Storage – New design information was presented. Information will now be collected from towns who have erected similar buildings regarding costs and grants.
Sherman’s – John Lorence submitted a letter regarding his continued interest in the Sherman’s property and working with the Caroga Arts Collective (CAC). He was given time to express his thoughts at the meeting. The latest CAC proposal was discussed briefly and the dialog with both parties will continue.
Fund Transfer – Transfer of $256,000 from the General Fund to the Highway Fund was discussed pending review of 2016 records to confirm the transfer is appropriate.
Town Attorney – The appointment of a new Town Attorney was discussed. The board would like to appoint a local attorney. One interview has been completed and two more are planned prior to a decision.
