From the Town Board
To enhance communications with residents, the Town Board will distribute this newsletter with the “headlines” from the board meetings.
This was a work session planned primarily to interview another attorney as part of the process for selecting a town attorney. As result, most of the meeting was held in executive session. There was some brief public meeting time where the Highway Dept. garage furnace and the town property sale topics were discussed and acted upon as described below.
Highway Department Garage – Accepted the revised bid from Lynch Heating & Cooling (Dolgeville) to replace the failing furnace and duct work.
Town Property – Approved the initiation of a three round sealed bid auction of a small piece of town property (SBL 83.6-3-2) on RT10 near the post office. The minimum bid was set at $2,500 to cover the town’s purchase price and associated purchase and sale legal fees (see more below).
Town Attorney – Approved Dunn & Dunn (Canajoharie) as the named town attorneys. The board agreed to use their services on an as needed basis and pay them an hourly rate instead of a prepaid monthly retainer (see more below).
Town Attorney – The board has been seeking a local attorney to serve the town. After considering three attorneys, the board selected Dunn & Dunn as the named town attorneys. Their law office is located in Canajoharie and their municipal clients include the towns of Canajoharie, Nelliston, Palatine and a sewer district in Montgomery County.
Town Property Auction – Due to an inquiry by the new owner of the old store at 2101 RT10, the board decided to auction a small (approximately 60 ft x 120 ft) parcel of land that has been vacant and off the tax rolls for many years. The land is on the southeast side of the old store on RT10. The board expressed at least five benefits to this sale – recouping the purchase price and legal fees, supporting a new local business, increasing sales tax revenues, getting it back on the property tax rolls and putting vacant land in the center of town back into productive use.
Next Meeting: Monthly Town Board Meeting, Wednesday, April
11th at 7PM.
