From the Town Board
Highlights of the December 12th, 2018 Town Board Meeting
To enhance communications with residents, the Town Board will distribute this newsletter with the “headlines” from the board meetings. Detailed meeting minutes will be posted on the Town website.
This was a regularly scheduled monthly Town Board meeting. A speaker from the New York Power Authority presented information on the LED Street Light initiative (see more below). She spoke for about 40 minutes and the overall meeting lasted from 7–8:45pm.
Resolutions/Local Laws Passed:
Polar Plunge – Approved up to $400 for liability insurance coverage for the event that will be held on January 1st at the Caroga Lake Marina.
Fulton Montgomery Community College Foundation – Donated greens fees for four players at the Nick Stoner Municipal Golf Course to the annual fundraiser for the FMCC Foundation to be held on May 22, 2019.
Zoning Board of Appeals – Appointed current ZBA board member Doug Purcell to be chairman for a one year term effective January 1, 2019.
Town Real Estate – Authorized the Supervisor to sign the final closing documents to complete the sale of town property (SBL 83.6-3-2) located on NYS Route 10/29A near the Post Office.
The following items were also discussed:
LED Light Initiative – Jessica Waldorf from the New York Power Authority (NYPA) presented information and answered questions regarding a proposal to install LED street lights in Caroga. NYPA projects Caroga would save about $24,000 per year in reduced energy and maintenance costs. The transition cost is projected to be $140,000 to $165,000. NYPA would finance the cost over a 10 year period. Due to the immediate energy savings, the Town would see a reduction in overall costs (including the finance payment) starting in the first year. This New York State effort hopes to replace all 1.5 million street lights in the state and save municipalities millions in energy costs. The town of Caroga currently has 166 street lights.
Asbestos Removal – Opened three bids received to remove asbestos prior to demolition of a camp declared unsafe by the Town Code Officer. The structure is located at 2328 NY State Route 10. More information is required before taking action.
