Highlights of the April 10th, 2019 Town Board Meeting
To enhance communications with residents, the Town Board will distribute this newsletter with the “headlines” from the board meetings. Detailed meeting minutes will be posted on the Town website (TownofCaroga.com).
This was a regular monthly Town Board meeting. The meeting lasted approximately one hour and 15 minutes.
Resolutions/Local Laws Passed:
Town Clerk – Approved travel expenses for the Town Clerk’s attendance at the state sponsored conference for town clerks in Syracuse in May.
Code Office – Approved the hiring of a temporary part-time assistant to the Code Officer for up to 20 hours per week for a period from May 6th to September 16th.
Golf Course – Approved the 2019 contract with the golf course manager. The golf course plans to open on Wednesday, April 24th.
Town Bookkeeper – Approved the town bookkeeper’s attendance at the Finance School sponsored by NYS Comptroller and Association of Towns in Saratoga in May.
Town Landfill – Accepted the quote from CT Male for $9,811 to complete all required inspections at the landfill in 2019. This will include a request to the state for reductions in required inspections starting in 2020 due to acceptable testing results over years.
Water Grants – Approved travel expenses for a town councilman to attend a New York State Water Grants for Municipalities Seminar in Elizabethtown on May 20th.
Caroga Tourism Campaign – Approved an expenditure of $150 to support the 2019 local business “Welcome to Caroga” campaign to promote tourism in town.
The Eccentric Club – Approved the donation of golf for four including carts to The Eccentric Club’s 2019 gala fundraiser. The Eccentric Club holds their annual golf tournament at the Town course each year.
The following items were also discussed:
Town Clean-up Day – Town Clean-up Day will be held on May 4th. All residents are encouraged to participate for a few hours to collect litter along Town roads. Please report to Town hall between 8-9am that day to pick up bags and instructions.
Sherman’s – Several questions regarding the current situation with Sherman’s were asked by the public. Board members confirmed that they are still waiting for documents to consider a sale offer and that the final decision will be made by residents with a referendum. If the final documents are received, information sessions will be scheduled to share all the information with the public and get their input prior to board action. The board confirmed that they continue to consider all offers received.
