From the Town Board
Highlights of the April 22nd, 2019 Town Board Meeting
To enhance communications with residents, the Town Board will distribute this newsletter with the “headlines” from the board meetings. Detailed meeting minutes will be posted on the Town website (TownofCaroga.com).
This was a special work session for the Town Board. The meeting lasted approximately one hour before the board went into executive session to discuss personnel matters.
Resolutions/Local Laws Passed:
Sherman’s – Authorized the Supervisor to sign a legal release agreement with Balboaa Land Development Inc. which would only become effective if Sherman’s were to be sold to the Caroga Arts Collective (CAC). This agreement does not initiate the sale action or become effective in any way unless or until the Town closes on a sale of Sherman’s to the CAC. This legal release is being required by the Town Board before consideration will be given to the CAC offer for Sherman’s.
The following items were also discussed:
Sherman’s – During the public comment section at the start of the meeting, many questions were asked by the public regarding the sale of the Sherman’s property. Below are some key points that were made during the discussion:
To date there have been a total of 3 offers for Sherman’s.
The Board has reviewed, discussed and considered all offers to date.
The Board will hold at least two public information sessions before any decision.
Any decision to sell Sherman’s will be put to a public referendum and the voters will make the decision whether or not to sell Sherman’s, not the Board.
All documents related to offers and legal agreements have to be kept confidential by law until the process is complete.
The Board will provide all information and documents to the public prior to and during any public information sessions. If the process doesn’t move forward and there are no information sessions held, documents will be released to the public as soon as allowed by law.
Upcoming Meetings:
Monthly Town Board Meeting, Wednesday, May 8th at 7PM at town hall.
