Highlights of the May 8th, 2019 Town Board Meeting
To enhance communications with residents, the Town Board will distribute this newsletter with the “headlines” from the board meetings. Detailed meeting minutes will be posted on the Town website (TownofCaroga.com).
This was a regular monthly meeting for the Town Board and the meeting lasted two hours.
Resolutions/Local Laws Passed:
Caroga Historical Museum – Waived permit/variance fees for signs at Sherman’s.
Boat Stewards – Approved the hiring of a Steward Supervisor and boat stewards.
Sherman’s – Approved a small wedding on June 27th, 2020 for a fee of $250.
Sherman’s – Approved use for wedding photos (about 1 hour) for a fee of $50.
County Contract – Accepted road mowing contract for $3,094 payment to the Town.
ADK Association of Towns – Approved Supervisor to attend meeting on June 3rd.
LED Street Light Conversion – Scheduled work session on May 29th to discuss.
Sherman’s CAC Purchase Proposal – Scheduled an info session on May 22nd.
Fireworks Displays – Approved a display on Pine Lake on July 3rd and Canada Lake on July 6th. Both displays are conducted by Majestic Fireworks, Inc.
Mountain Bike Trail – Approved the submission of a grant application to fund the construction of the trail. The entire project will be grant and/or privately funded.
Mountain Bike Trail – Approved a proposed 5 year plan for developing the trail.
The following items were also discussed:
Sherman’s – During the public comment section, many questions were asked by the public regarding the sale of the Sherman’s property. All documents related to the sale of Sherman’s that can be made public will be posted to the Town website by Monday, May 13th. See below for an upcoming information session on this topic.
Attorney/Client Meeting – The Town Clerk challenged whether a meeting Board members attended with the Town attorneys was legal. The meeting was legally conducted under an exclusion to the Open Meetings Law whereby the Board may receive advice from their attorney. Only urgent employment related matters were discussed. No other town matters were discussed or resolutions were passed.
Note: The 5 ton limit on Town roads will be lifted as of Monday, May 13th.
