Highway Department

News

Caroga Highway Superintendent Larry Voght will host an open house at the Highway Baron on Saturday October 14, 2023 8AM–11AM.
Those interested in viewing the conditions at the Highway Barn and reviewing the proposed plans for a new Highway Barn are invited to attend.
Cider and donuts will be provided.

It has recently come to the attention of the Town of Caroga officials that businesses in the Town of Caroga have been using the transfer station and putting garbage out for curbside pickup. In a recent memo from the Fulton County Department of Solid Waste, they stated that business including Air B&B’s and other short-term rentals are not allowed to use the transfer stations. When the Town took over municipal garbage collection, it was decided that only residential garbage would be picked up curbside, not commercial properties, which include stores, restaurants, motels, or service stations. The Town will be rigorously enforcing both the Town and County policies.

Salt storage buildings need to meet these specification:

It is dangerous and illegal to plow snow across a Town Road per Article 1219 of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law & Highway Law 214.

It is illegal (Local Law #2 of 2017) to park on Town of Caroga town and county roads between December 1 and April 1 of each year. Penalties include fines and/or imprisonment.

Lane Road stump dump is closed due to misuse. It is available by appointment only: Call (518)921-2792

For your safety, the Highway Superintendent recommends that you not wear dark clothes when walking at night on town roads, especially during snow plowing season. Light, reflective clothing is best. Please stay out of harm’s way when a snow plow approaches.
